Redesigning the packaging editor for scale and speed
Making complex editing easy and scalable for the next stage of growth
As the Lead Product Designer, I was responsible for the end-to-end design of the new packaging editor. I collaborated closely with the CPO to align the product vision with business goals and worked tightly with engineers to ensure design feasibility and smooth implementation.
My Role & Contribution
The legacy packaging editor had reached its limits. It wasn’t designed to support the growing complexity of user needs—such as introducing a template gallery, advanced editing tools, or a more scalable design system. At the same time, its visual design felt outdated, which didn’t reflect the evolving brand and market expectations.
Problem
We wanted to make the editor faster, easier to use, and ready for future growth. Success meant supporting new features like templates, helping users create better designs more quickly, and making the tool easier to update and maintain for the team.
Success definition
To ground the redesign in real user needs, I audited dozens of client design projects to identify common patterns, layouts, and frequently used elements. This helped us avoid building in a vacuum and instead create features that reflect how users actually design.
Research & Discovery
From the beginning, I worked closely with the engineering team to validate feasibility and break down complex interactions into scalable components. This tight collaboration helped us modernize the frontend, integrate a new render engine, and create a component-based UI that significantly reduced time-to-implement for new features.
Technical Collaboration
The new editor helped users create better designs, faster. It was more responsive, easier to use, and supported advanced features without slowing down. Internally, it sped up development, making it easier to add new capabilities and keep improving the product.
